I am so grateful that we landed at Shiki Guesthouse. This was my first time using AirBnB and I love it. Chieri and her family made us feel right at home in their home. I love that their house is a large traditional Japanese home filled with many other nationalities. It gave the place such a warm ambiance. What really impressed me about Chieri and her family was when my mother got sick and her dad went out and bought her medicine!!! That was an incredibly kind gesture. Also, my mother was a bit uncomfy and cold and they were able to supply us with extra blankets and futon to stack. I love these people!! This house is only 15 minutes away from Nara Station which is very very convenient if you want to see the deer at Nara Park and Todaiji!! Thank you so much for making us feel so welcome!! We love you!

Chieri and her family are amazing! We had a wonderful time sleeping in their authentic wooden house. They were so helpful and so proud to explain the Japanese traditions. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for living like an authentic Japanese! Thank you so much chieri!! I hope we can come back!!

It was a unique and wonderful experience to stay in Cheiri's place! Chieri's place is a traditional Japanese wooden house, and we live in a private room with tatami. Restrooms and shower rooms are public and there are several community rooms! I love this house and really enjoy this experience. the location is 1 min walk to the metro station so do not need to worry about the transportation, there is a small river nearby and the cherry blossom there is very pretty! Chieri speaks very good English and is always kind to help us. She gave us postcards as gifts! Definitely will recommend to my friend and I will live here again when I am back to Kyoto.

My girlfriend and I stayed at Chieri's house for three nights in the first week of April. Chieri turned out to be a wonderful host! Together with her father, she greeted us at the train station when we arrived and then walked with us to her house (it is literally in front of Tamamizu station as advertised -- very convenient!). She showed us around the house and explained the rules to us. The room was beautiful -- exactly what we were expecting from a ryokan. The only thing that we missed was a heater in the room -- it was a bit cold at night but fortunately the duvets together with blankets were keeping us warm and cozy. In the evening, you could keep yourself warm by sitting at a kotatsu (traditional Japanese heated table) in the common area. The shared kitchen was well equipped so we could prepare some hot breakfast in the morning. The location of the house makes it a perfect base to visit Nara and Kyoto. We also went to Osaka from there but the travel time is a bit longer (almost an hour) with the JR. We felt very welcome during our stay. One day at breakfast, we made friends with Chieri's father, who told us about his hobby -- he researches very old Japanese tombs and deciphers the inscriptions on them to learn who was buried inside them. All in all, very pleasant stay! I wish we could actually have spent more time with Chieri and her father to get to know them better (we were on a very tight schedule) -- next time for sure! :-)

Perfect location for visiting Kyoto and Nara, guest house it's just steps from the train station, trains run very often. The village is small, quiet and has a beautiful river walk. There is a cafe near the station, the ladies at the cafe are nice and the noodles tasty. Chieri and her father are excellent hosts, they made us feel welcomed and took good care of us. The house is a traditional Japanese house that has been recently renovated and has lots of charm. Room and bathrooms are very clean, comfortable tatami and futons. Highly recommended if you want to experience real Japanese hospitality.

All was great. Chieri pickup us on train station, it is like 30 seconds walk from station. Even she got us bigger room for same price because was available. We had first floor, there was direct sun when you open curtains. All social facilities are new, everywhere clean. Chieri was really kind and helpful. Cheap restaurant and Lawson grocery is about 10 minutes walk. We made easy trips to Kyoto, Nara, Osaka and Inari from this house. From Kyoto take rapid train, it is only 30 minutes from center by JR.

My girlfriend and I were lucky enough to stay with Chieri for five nights in July 2015 and had a lovely time. Chieri and her father were warm, kind hosts and made sure that we were never lacking for anything. In short, one of the most atmospheric places at which I have stayed, and I'm sure that it's even more lovely in the spring and autumn. What makes their guest house so unusual and special, however, is the beautiful 90-year-old home in which one stays. The traditional tatami rooms have been sensitively refurbished by Chieri's architect family and still retain a soulfulness and sense of age. Yet they have also made smart choices to update the house in small ways, most notably the brand new bathrooms clad in hinoki (aromatic Japanese Cypress) wood. The lack of air conditioning is typical of older houses, but with fans it didn't bother me even though it was the height of summer. The location near Tamamizu station is ideal if one is planning to visit Nara, Uji, and places farther afield such as Mt Koya in addition to Kyoto. If one is only visiting Kyoto, however, the train ride might be a little further than one is expecting, especially if one is there for only a day or two. One thing that we especially enjoyed was a day-long visit to the Obubu Tea farm in nearby Wazuka, which had not been on our radar until Chieri mentioned that she has a friend who works there. We will definitely stay with Chieri again when we are back in the Kyoto area and heartily recommend her Airbnb to anyone looking for an off-the-beaten path experience!

Staying with Chieri has two strong benefits. She is charming and helpful and her house is absolutely fantastic. Big, old, wooden, with many small pleasures for the eye inside, but also very comfortable! You can feel like a hero of old tales and it's really great experience. Do not hesitate to visit Chieri!
